The challenge

Samsonite set us a challenge to replicate the qualities of ‘functionality’, ‘innovation’ and ‘durability’ for which their luggage is justly famous into a range of personal leathergoods for men. The CARBON collection was the inspired result.

Unique solution

We created the CARBON concept, featuring an integrated hinge to eliminate the main areas of wear. The concept was realised working with Samsonite technicians, industrial design consultants, FM Design and Yamani who were licensed to manufacture. We hold the patent jointly with Samsonite and FM Design.

Unique product

The product featured space age material for the hinge, selecting ‘Hytrel’ as the strongest, most durable material available that could be moulded with microscopic precision to form the unique precision hinge. Traditional hand- craftsmanship, of the highest order, was the hallmark of quality matching Samsonite’s demanding standards. The finest full-grain, vat dyed leather, was selected in a waxy finish to be both soft to the touch, yet durable and attention to detail maximised the functional benefits of each individual product.

Global marketing

We developed a unique marketing concept by licensing a specialist manufacturer as the sole manufacturer of Samsonite Carbon to ensure consistent quality worldwide and appointed a global network of licensed national distributors.

The result

Samsonite CARBON became the best selling Samsonite leather collection.
